The Sabika Story

Sabika was born as a joint venture between two professional women – one in the USA and one in Austria. Karin Mayr is an Austrian native but lives in the US in Pittsburgh, PA. Her professional career included textile design and she worked as a consultant for European fabric mills in the development of fabrics for various leading US companies. Sabine Kaiserseder lives in Austria and is a leading crystal designer who has been featured in international Swarovski catalogs.

Sabika offers two collections per year – the Spring/Summer Collection and the Fall/Winter Collection. These collections are an interpretation of the international jewelry fashion trends and are translated into looks that are wearable and versatile … and fashionable. Most pieces work for casual and dress occasions since they are designed to compliment black, jeans, khakis and even t-shirts.

Swarovski – It all began in Bohemia

Swarovski crystal was born when Bohemian-born Daniel Swarovski invented an automatic cutting machine in 1892. In 1895 the Swarovski Company was founded when he established a crystal cutting factory in Wattens. Here he could take advantage of local hydroelectricity for the energy-intensive grinding processes he had patented. Daniel’s invention revolutionized the jewelry business because now faceted glass could be cut in a significantly shorter period of time and no longer required the painstaking cutting of each stone by hand.

Swarovski crystal contains approximately 32% lead to maximize refraction which gives the crystals their brilliance. But Swarovski didn’t stop with just the ability to now cut the stones faster and more precisely … he now invented a means to vacuum plate the backs of the stones with silver and gold. This allows light to refract in a rainbow spectrum in each crystal. Swarovski coats some of its crystals with special metallic chemical coatings. Aurora Borealis, or "AB", is one of the most popular coatings, and gives the surface a rainbow oil slick appearance.

Because of the quality and beauty of the Swarovski crystals the Sabika jewelry is different from other jewelry lines. Sabika designers create pieces that utilize not only the Swarovski crystals but also the Bohemian glass to produce a dazzling piece to be worn with casual as well as dressy and formal attire.

Metals Used in Sabika

All of the Sabika jewelry is 100% nickel free. Each and every piece contains only the highest quality galvanized aluminum, brass, or sterling silver. Galvanizing each piece is a very intricate process but it produces a result that allows even the most sensitive of skin to enjoy wearing Sabika jewelry. Each piece is light-weight and comfortable to wear and always lies perfectly around a woman’s neckline.

Women who tell me they can’t wear costume jewelry because of the nickel content are amazed and thrilled with Sabika because they can wear it without complications. I have one customer who hasn’t been able to wear pierced earrings for years until I gave her a pair to just try … she hasn’t taken them off! Not only is she able to wear Sabika studs but she is now looking to try other pieces of the Sabika products.

Care of Sabika

Crystals are very sensitive to chemicals. For this reason unlike most jewelry Sabika crystal jewelry cannot be cleaned in traditional jewelry chemicals of any kinds. After each wearing just use a soft clean cotton cloth to clean the metal as well as the crystals.

• NEVER put Sabika jewelry in jewelry cleaner or soak in water since this may damage or dull the jewelry.

• We recommend you put your jewelry on last, in order to avoid the damaging effects of hairspray and perfume.
